Same airline or multiple airlines for a long haul trip?

Same airline or multiple airlines for a long haul trip?

Forum

Hi there,

I’m planning a trip to see family in Seattle in Aug 2022. Since there are no direct flights from anywhere in India to Seattle, I’ll need to book connecting flights. From what I have read here and heard from friends and family, I would be better off booking my connection using the same airline rather than using 2 or more airlines. However, this will not be cheap.

Both my connections while departing and returning will be via Amsterdam with a layover of 3 hours and 10 mins each way. Not sure if this is enough time for me to peacefully make the transfer.

Given that I have not traveled much alone and have no idea what to expect here, is it sensible for me to follow through with plan of booking cheaper tickets with 2 separate airlines or should I just pay a little more and book all my flights via one airline.

  1. It’s not about same airline or not but rather make sure you’re all on one ticket. Alliances are fine, like KLM, Delta, Air France are good together. Or United, Lufthansa, Air Canada. Etc

3h is good for a connection. You’ll be flying on KLM+Delta then I assume.

  2. Consider what could happen on a multi airline flight, you could get stranded somewhere and the airport might send you back, the airlines won’t help you if you get stuck, lots of stuff can go wrong. Peace of mind is worth spending a little extra
