Hello everyone!

My dad has been Air Traffic Controller his whole life for 33 years (his only carrier and passion, he is Head of the ATC dep) in developing country Republic of Georgia. I am his only son who is filing petition to bring him into US as permanent resident (green card holder) and ideally ATC job would be a great fit for him, but US has strict rules about being the Controller: Must be US citizen, <31 y.o etc.
What do you think is the way for him to stay in Aviation or connected to the Aviation field?
What jobs can he do to be useful for a company and society ?

He cant be a pilot, steward, ATC, baggage support or engineer due to the age 53.

Thank you and looking forward to reading your ideas.

  1. Have him look into getting an Aircraft Dispatch certification. No age limit and work for an airline. Also Flight Coordinator positions are something that would keep him in aviation. Both are desk jobs doing flight planning, weather briefs, etc. for pilots.

  2. I don’t know if citizenship is required, but a contract controller could be an option for companies like Serco or Midwest.

  3. I know a couple of controllers from Canada that have taught ATC internationally. Aren’t there several colleges in the US that offer ATC programs? Maybe he could get a job there?
