Baggage fiasco

Baggage fiasco

Forum

Most of us know about the absolute insanity happening with multiple airlines right now…. in my case, I had a layover in Paris (CDG) on my way back to JFK from Rome last Friday and my bags never made it to JFK. Flew AirFrance. I was given the typical spiel, filed a claim, filled out an inventory form, etc etc. Been impossible to get in contact with any real human beings. My question for anyone who might know, will I ever be seeing my luggage again? I don’t mind waiting weeks if I have to, but I have things in that bag that are irreplaceable and I really need to have them back eventually. (I am learning the hard way that it was stupid of me to put them in a checked bag). Part of me feels like since they’ve done this to so many people that that’s a good thing, since they surely can’t lose everyone’s luggage, but another part of me feels like the number of people experiencing this right now is going to make the likelihood of them finding my bag nearly nonexistent. Does anyone have some firsthand insight into this issue?

  1. No one can predict what will happen with your bag, but it’s not like the mountains of delayed luggage are going to be taken to a landfill. They’ll all eventually be shipped somewhere.

Two important things regarding checked luggage… Be sure the bag is clearly tagged in a couple of places with your name/email/cell contact info, and never put anything of value in checked luggage.

    Good luck.

  2. I’m in the same boat as you. mine was Venice to CDG to IAD. about half the people in my flight didn’t get their luggage. calling doesn’t help we can only hope for the best. I have an air tag in my luggage and according to the tracker its currently at le kube next to CDG. altho it worries me that world tracker is not showing anything and its saying we are still tracing your luggage.

  3. Not much to offer other than similar lost bags experience with KLM (merged with AF so same airline). Short transfer ar Schiphol last week so clearly the bags are there, missed the connection. However did the PIR etc and there is zero service, no info. Phone line is never answered (I mean never) and on messenger they shared generic info before stating they cannot (will not?) contact their baggage department. Literally wait and see. To make it worse we’ve had to buy a week’s worth of clothing, toiletries, essentials etc (so far) and KLM have said they are unlikely to refund this. An absolute shitshow.

Major EU airports are a bit of a clusterfuck right now, sure, but the complete lack of customer service is truly awful.

I hope that they’re working through a massive backlog of luggage in a warehouse somewhere, are overwhelmed with complaints and just leaving baggage staff to chip away at it, so will eventually get our bags back. But not counting on it.

Don’t fly KLM, and more generally pack as much in hand luggage as possible…
