emirates cabin luggage size?

emirates cabin luggage size?

Forum

On the Emirates website, I saw two different information regarding my carry on allowance. For the first, I saw that the maximum dimensions are 55 x 38 x 20 cm. On another, I saw “Please note that rolling bags with built-in wheels and retractable handles will be permitted as cabin baggage only if the total dimensions (length + width + height) add up to less than 114 cm (45 inches). The larger, overnight models of this type of bag will not be permitted in the cabin.”

Mine’s a the hard shell kind of bag with wheels and a handle, and its dimensions according to the manufacturer’s site is 55x35x25. I also measured it myself—it was around 55x34x23. Is Emirates super strict with the size? My width is around 3-5 cm bigger than their limit. Will this be ok?

  1. Where do you see that quote? I don’t see that on the Emirates site, just some third-party sites.

    1. I see. Anyway, it’s highly unlikely that Emirates will measure the size of your bag. As long as it’s not very obviously oversize, and it shouldn’t be, you’re fine.

  3. Have flown with Emirates in economy carrying-on a rolling suitcase and a laptop bag, no questions asked. As Long as your purse isn’t masquerading as a second bag, you shouldn’t have any dramas it being considered as a personal item.

  4. The number limit and weight limit are more likely to be enforced, and, yes, they frequently do not enforce those. (Never even consider the size limits; I couldn’t even tell you the dimensions of my standard carry-on.) Mileage may vary though.

  5. In my experience with Emirates, they can sometimes be quite strict with the size and weight of the carry on at outstation airports and also depending on staff, they may ask you to put the purse inside your carry on and then weigh it so be mindful of the 7kg limit.

For a connecting flight in Dubai however it’s usually a different story, as while they can still weigh and check the size of your carry on at the gate, they rarely care about things like purses.
