Whether the seats open were always open or someone who checked-in but missed the flight (ie you) is irrelevant.]]></description>

It depends on the airline, but the general policy is that if you no-show a non-refundable ticket, the coupon value is forfeit. Many carriers would have let you retain the full value of the coupon (for future travel on that carrier) if you canceled before departure, but it would depend on the operating airline, ticketing agency or airline, and ticket type.]]></description>
